Technical Discussion » Labs Mesh Sharpen

I was watching a video on Labs mesh sharpen from 2019 in houdini 18.5 and yet I don't see the node in 18.5 or 19.0. What's up with that? Is it only in 19.5? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRNYZgIitOQ&t=75s [www.youtube.com]

Translating the curve to world center before the follow path constraint and transforming back out again wproduces smooth translation, which is a symptom of 32bit float errors. I will ask sidefx support id the followpathconstraint node is 32bit and if there's a way to change it's binding to 64bit as you can in the attrib wrangle.

Converting to a nurbs curve or even starting with a nurbs curve will not eliminate the stuttering, even in the fixed file.

The flipping is gone and the stuttering remains. I am using Houdini core 19.0.383 and it threw a number of errors opening your file so I'm starting to think this may be a 19.0 bug

I'm making a camera follow a bezier curve path with an orient along curve sop in Solaris. The moment I use any kind of look at mode the camera shakes and flips 90 degrees now and then. Works fine with a circle, anything more complex, I can't get it to behave. Does anyone have what should be the default example of this working?

Technical Discussion » Solaris parent constrain examples

The examples and documentation for Solaris parent constrain do not include the setup for the basic function - to parent constrain one object to another. The examples are all more complex than this basic function and not clearly explained. I can't find any docs and tutorials clearly showing the setup to parent a single object to another.

Softdots and patterns are looking for a UV input. Putting P into the P input of a noise VOP makes the noise work fine. Unable to get UV to work because no docs anywhere

I'm unable to apply a pattern in attribVop. Help doc has no example, no context. Looked everywhere on youtube. I just want to put polka dots on a grid!
"This operator generates repeating soft dots". They should have added "good luck with that". Two hours in and no clue. Anyone been able to do this? I'm using the softdot node inside attribVop, for geometry not for a shader.

Create a sphere in Solaris and view it from an ortho view at a scale of 1 and all is good:
Zoom out just a little and it starts displaying the sphere away from where it actually is:
Zoom out further on d the sphere in Karma goes offscreen altogether
Plus, the method of inserting images here is terrible. Can't see what you get, not cut and paste from clipboard, unpredictable results. This is mythird sixth try. I can't get the screenshots to appear properly so any "tips" on that appreciated as well

Technical Discussion » Spray paint brush size

Thanks, I suspected that would be the case. The docs could include this deliniation between spray and other brushes. It also could include an indication of method for resizing the tool scale. The parameter dialog does not have a slider for tool size, just for adjusting the sprayed point attributes.

I accidentally used my mouse scroll wheel which changes the brush size.

I can't find any docs on changing the spray paint brush size. It doesn't follow the standard Houdini brush commands as far as I can tell. It seems to be a 3D spherical brush. All my actual airbrushes have interchangeable nozzles for different scales. Am I missing something? Are there docs?
Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Importing text from a CSV file

Is there a way to indicate which row to start reading from? It looks like it will skip the first row if it is string text and start from the second row. I have a file with string text in the first two rows and Table Import doesn't like that, I have to manually remove the second row currently. How do I tell it to start reading from a specific row downwards or a range of rows?

Silly question time. How to disable the path names in blue that appear alongside every node and clutter up my stage network?
